RECAP New York Red Bulls U23s tie Reading United A.C., 1-1

The Baby Bulls stage a comeback to earn a point.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Red Bulls U23s (4-2-1) tied Reading United A.C. (4-1-2), 1-1, thanks to a Mael Corboz (Red Bulls Academy/Maryland) goal in the 89th minute.

Reading took the lead in the 81st minute after Jamaican striker Neco Brett (college teammate of trialist Speedy Williams) hit a screamer from the left side of the field. However, he was sent off following the goal because he removed his shirt and was already sitting on a yellow card. The Reading United AC official Facebook page claims that he "merely pulled his shirt bottom up over his forehead" and that it was "not an excessive celebration but rather an excessive call." Nonetheless, the Baby Bulls were able to utilize their man advantage and equalize.

Goalkeeper Evan Louro (Red Bulls Academy/Michigan) made three saves in the tie. The Red Bulls dominated play, more than doubling Reading's shots on goal.

Here are the standings for the Premier Development League's Mid Atlantic Division. The U23s are halfway through their 14-match season.

The New York Red Bulls U23s' next match is against the Ocean City Nor'easters on Saturday, June 20th at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, New Jersey. The Nor'easters beat the U23s, 3-1, on May 27th.
