Roster change deadline: Friday June 19, 9:00pm ET
Amount of Free Transfers this week: 2
The New York Red Bulls look get back to their early season form when the Vancouver Whitecaps come to town. RBNY hasn't won since beating New York City FC 2-1 on May 10th, so it's been over a month without a point (they drew FC Dallas 0-0 on May 15th). RBNY has been off the last two weeks, but will play three MLS games in eight days from June 20 (Vancouver) to June 28 (NYC FC), after returning to competitive play with Tuesday's USOC clash with Atlanta.
It's a bit of a gamble, but I recommend to buy center backs Matt Miazga and Damien Perrinelle. Miazga was away at the U-20 World Cup for the past three weeks and Perrinelle missed the last match due to yellow card accumulation. RBNY has not won since they have been gone, so Jesse Marsch will want to get them back in the lineup to right the ship. However, it could be a double-edged sword since they will have to cover Whitecaps striker Octavio Rivero, who has six goals and two assists. I would also buy Lloyd Sam and Bradley Wright-Phillips. The Vancouver defense is good, but they are averaging almost one goal against per game. One of these guys will have the ability to break through.
First, an obvious bag is Kemar Lawrence. He will be away for Jamaica's last Copa America match the same day. Look for Roy Miller to get the start at left back. Next, I would bag Felipe Martins and Dax McCarty. The RBNY defense has only posted three clean sheets this year, so they will most likely not receive an additional four points each for keeping the goal empty on Saturday. Also, they will have to contain the high-powered Whitecaps offense, so they may have trouble getting forward.
