Until this week's 1-0 win over Wilmington Hammerheads, New York Red Bulls II hadn't kept a clean sheet in USL since their opening match - a 0-0 draw with Rochester Rhinos. So the shutout was significant for a team whose weakest link has consistently appeared to be the back line.
NYRB II is a reserve team, a chance for prospects to develop. Results aren't all that important in the greater scheme of things where the USL side is concerned. But results are probably important to the players involved, not least because they are one way of evaluating whether those players are generally better than others they meet in the league.
All of which is to say this week's performance was a tonic for NYRB II's defenders. And Michael da Fonte has received further boost with a selection to USL's official Team of the Week.

Congrats, Mike!
NYRB II is in the middle of a six-game road trip. Next up is a trip to play Louisville City FC on June 20.
