RBNY MLS Fantasy Recap Week 16: Abang, Duvall & Felipe

Now is about the time we think about panicking. But let's wait a week.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Red Bulls have dropped four games in a row after losing to the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1. Even though the Whitecaps are a better team on paper, the Red Bulls put themselves in a tough spot they couldn't dig out of late in the game.

The top performers are a bit on the odd side this week.  Bradley Wright-Phillips normally tops this list, but he and Sacha Klejstan earned negative points for their performances.  BWP missed TWO penalty kicks and Klejstan received a red card in the 11th minute.  It's hard to win games when things like that happen to your team.  Here are this week's top point getters:

Anatole Abang (FWD, 8 points): Abang has only played in 62 minutes the last two games for RBNY.  However, he has the team's last two goals scored.  He picked up one against Vancouver off a Chris Duvall cross, nicely slotted past David Ousted.  He also earned one of the penalties, giving RBNY a chance to pick up some points.

Chris Duvall (DEF, 5 points): Even though he earned a negative point since the RBNY defense let up two goals, Duvall redeemed himself on the MLS Fantasy end due to his assist to Abang.

Felipe Martins (MID, 4 points): Felipe put in 90 hard fought minutes, especially after Klejstan left the field in the 11th minute.  He earned an additional bonus point on both the offensive and defensive ends, but couldn't solve Vancouver.

The Red Bulls will turn around quickly to host Real Salt Lake at home on Wednesday night, then end the double-game week with New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Sunday.  Hopefully they can right the ship against two teams that are in the bottom halves of their respective conferences.
