Report: Ryan Meara was injured again

NYCFC broke Meara again, but apparently didn't say anything about it at the time...

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

It is not really clear what Ryan Meara's future holds when his loan to NYCFC is up at the end of this season. What is clear is that he hasn't had much playing time since he moved to the Bronx: one MLS appearance to date.

The blue team's US Open Cup match against New York Cosmos brought worse news: Meara didn't start or make the bench. Had he dropped to third on the NYC FC 'keepers' depth chart? He may have done, but that wasn't why he was missing from USOC.

As reported by Empire of Soccer: Meara is rehabbing a groin injury. NYCFC recently cut presumptive fourth-string 'keeper Akira Fitzgerald, so the squad is back to the usual quota of three glovemen. Meara is assumed to be competing with Manchester City academy graduate Eirik Johansen for the right to be considered the primary back-up to current starter Josh Saunders.

EoS reports Meara might be fit enough to be considered for selection for the upcoming visit of the New York Red Bulls to Yankee Stadium at some point in the near future.

EDIT: We made a mistake. Thanks to Michael for pointing it out.
