Roster change deadline: Friday July 3, 9:00pm ET
Amount of Free Transfers this week: 2
The New York Red Bulls started last week off by defeating the Atlanta Silverbacks in US Open Cup play, then beat two MLS teams during league play to launch a winning streak. They will now continue their packed schedule by hosting the New York Cosmos during a US Open Cup Round of 16 game on July 1st, then fly to Columbus on Independence Day. The Columbus Crew SC are only two points behind RBNY and sit in fifth place in the East.
I recommend to buy Lloyd Sam. Jesse Marsch said he plans for Sam to play in the Cosmos game, so barring any setbacks, he should also be in line to get time against Columbus. With Mike Grella resurgence of form, Sam will want to re-solidify his spot on the wing. I also recommend buying Sacha Klejstan. Just when articles started to emerge suggesting that Klejstan has been a bust, he puts in his best performance against NYCFC.
On the other side of the coin, bag Chris Duvall. Yes, it looks like he had a great game against NYCFC, scoring a goal. (Update 7/2)
But his defense is still questionable. He will have to guard Kei Kamara on Saturday, so he could be in a bit of trouble. Duvall picked up a pretty serious injury in the Cosmos game, so he won't be available for the foreseeable future. Good luck, Chris.
Also, the Gold Cup is lurking on the horizon that will affect the three international defensemen. Roy Miller should be bagged now as he is already training with Costa Rica. Karl Ouimette (Canada) will leave on July 5th, so if you have him currently, keep him, but definitely don't buy him now. Kemar Lawrence (Jamaica), will be available through the July 11th game against the New England Revolution, so hang onto him a few more games as well. The RB front office seemed to have worked something out with Jamaica.
Additionally, Haiti international Andrew Jean-Baptiste has quietly been released by the club on June 26th, so you'll want to bag him as well.
