The United States looks to advance to the semifinals as it takes on Cuba in the Gold Cup quarterfinals. The teams meet today at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland.
The U.S. is coming off an unsatisfying 1-1 draw with Panama. Cuba on the other hand defeated Guatemala 1-0 in their last match, winning their first game in the tournament.
Despite beating Guatemala, Cuba is considered one of the weakest teams in the tournament. The USMNT is expected to easily win and a loss would involve an upset of historic proportions. The winner of this match will advance to face the winner of Haiti v. Jamaica in the semifinals.
Although Cuba is a weak opponent, Jurgen Klinsmann will take this match very seriously and likely put out a strong starting lineup. Anything less than a blowout win would be hugely disappointing for the U.S.
There is no pressure on the Cubans and they will do everything to make this a difficult game, but surely they are overmatched. Look for the USMNT attack to finally start clicking and expect many goals.
