After dominating Cuba, the United States plays Jamaica today in the Gold Cup 2015 semifinals. Jamaica is coming off of a unconvincing 1-0 victory over Haiti. The U.S. will like its chances against a decent, if unspectacular Jamaican side.
Both sides are expected to be at full strength today. For Jamaica, forward Darren Mattocks (red card) and midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson (yellow card accumulation) both return from one match suspensions.
There were question marks surrounding Timothy Chandler's availability for this match. Chandler was subbed off at halftime against Cuba and Jurgen Klinsmann said he was dealing with a minor injury. Despite this, Chandler is expected to be available for today's game.
Once again, the U.S. is the favorite in this Gold Cup match. While Jamaica is a far better team than Cuba, Jamaica is not a good possession team. In Jamaica's last match against Haiti, the Haitians dominated possession.
The Jamaicans are at their most dangerous on the counter-attack and the U.S. will have to be wary of the Jamaicans' speed. Expect the U.S. to dominate possession and pull out a win in a close match.
