The Red Bulls will have three teams in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

The Red Bulls continue to break ground, even though they should have done this in 2015.

The New York Red Bulls organization has the best chance to win the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

It is not because the organization took the 2015 Open Cup seriously, and fell in dramatic fashion. It is because we will have the most teams in the 2016 edition.

By finishing first in PDL Mid Atlantic Division during the regular season, the New York Red Bulls U23 team qualified for the 2016 USOC. It will be the first time since the 2013 and 2014 editions that the U23 team participated.

Given the teams that qualified (so far), the Red Bulls are officially the first organization ever to field three teams in the USOC. The Seattle Sounders U23s may still qualify, depending on the number of slots the USL PDL is given for the tournament.

Once a Metro has explained before, why we felt  the 2014 NPSL Champions Red Bulls U23s should have been in the 2015 Open Cup, but it is good to know that the team will have their shot in 2016.

The other two teams that will feature in the 2016 USOC are NYRB II who play in USL, and of course the New York Red Bulls who compete in MLS. Every team entered is another chance at victory for the Red Bulls organization who have never won the Open Cup.
