Roster change deadline: Saturday August 1, 2:00pm ET
Amount of Free Transfers this week: 2
After the bye week that wasn't, the New York Red Bulls get back in the saddle and play a very familiar foe in the Philadelphia Union. Recently, Philly has had their number: knocking them out in the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup on July 21st in penalty kicks and suffering their first-ever RBA defeat to the Union on May 24th. It's time for the Red Bulls to take back second place in the East. Another win by the Union catapults them into a playoff spot.
Buy back Kemar Lawrence. The Jamaica national had a great run into the finals of the Gold Cup, but just fell short. He will bring that momentum back to his club team.
Wildcard pick: Use your discretion.... You are now able to buy BWP's brother Shaun Wright-Phillips. SWP was signed by the team on Monday and will be pushing Mike Grella for playing time on the left wing. Even if he doesn't end up playing this week, RBNY has a double game week next week. He'll most likely get time during the double. I personally think he is a steal at $7.5M, but others think he'll take time to develop in MLS. I'll be picking him up this week.
Now is a good time to build for the double since you may want three or four RBNY players on your XI. Since you can only make two non-penalized transfers, grabbing one or two players now will pay benefits next week.
I say sell Sal Zizzo. His stock is dwindling since SWP showed up and "Magic Mike" Grella has been performing very well the last two months. Also, sell Connor Lade. Lade had his time, but he'll unfortunately have to make way for his buddies returning from Gold Cup duty. There won't be any room for him in the XI.
The only player who may see some action this week is Dax McCarty. He is the Commissioner's Pick replacement when Frank Lampard announced he was injured for the All-Star Game in Denver on Wednesday. Good luck against Tottenham, Dax!
