The Premier Development League announced their All-Conference teams for the 2015 season and New York Red Bulls U23s center back Timothy Schmoll was named to the All-Eastern Conference team.
Schmoll, a 6'6" skyscraper from Switzerland, plays his college ball for Harvard and has been a stalwart for the U23s this summer. His play has been noticed by the senior team, and he has been invited to practice under the watchful eyes of Jesse Marsch. Also, Schmoll is majoring in economics, if you're into that whole book learning thing.
The New York Red Bulls U23s are in the national final four, having won the regular season Mid-Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference Championship during the playoffs. They play the Ocala Stampede on Friday, July 31st.
The other three teams in the national final four had multiple players receive All-Conference recognition, so it's a little strange that the Red Bulls only had one. Even the PDL website kinda sorta alludes to it being a little weird that Baby Bulls are flying a bit under the radar.
The New York Red Bulls U23’s Timothy Schmoll is his club’s lone representative on the All-Eastern Conference team, as the club had a remarkable first season in the PDL with not only a Mid Atlantic Division title, but also the Eastern Conference championship.
I guess they'll just have to win the championship to get the honor they truly deserve. But still, only one player on the All-Conference Team? Get it together, PDL. I don't like the look of it.
