You might think the New York Red Bulls' 2-0 win over NYC FC was not necessarily a big deal. After all, RBNY has beaten its neighbor twice already this season, and the tenants of Yankee Stadium rolled into Red Bull Arena a little under-cooked. NYC FC has essentially been retooled on the fly in an effort to turn a drab inaugural season into a playoff run, but new arrivals need time to gel - it is fair to say we did not see the best of Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard, or Jefferson Mena, Angelino and Andoni Iraola, on Sunday.
But the league HQ was impressed. Those responsible for naming MLS's Team of the Week have included Matt Miazga and Dax McCarty in the lineup this week. And named Jesse Marsch Coach of the Week. And put Connor Lade and Felipe on the all-MLS selection's bench.
Once A Metro welcomes MLS's love for RBNY, and congratulates the players and coach for just reward for their Week 23 efforts.
