Bradley Wright-Phillips (plus Dax McCarty and Matt Miazga) makes Official MLS Team of Week 24

BWP leads a trio of Red Bulls on the MLS Team of Week 24.

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Red Bulls extended their unbeaten streak to six consecutive games with Week 24's 3-0 home win over Toronto FC. Bradley Wright-Phillips started the scoring for RBNY, collecting a nifty chip from Mike Grella and slipping the ball past TFC 'keeper Joe Bendik.

It was BWP's 11th goal of the season (44th in all competitions of his Red Bull career to date) and it would appear to have put him back on the radar of MLS HQ - increasingly desperately seeking for candidates to challenge Sebastian Giovinco's march to the league's MVP award. As the write-up on mlssoccer.com says, BWP's role in RBNY's 2015 tactical system extends beyond goalscoring, and he is playing it very well.

Wright-Phillips is the only Red Bull to make the official MLS Team of Week 24, which perhaps underrates the achievement of the team's back line in keeping Giovinco, Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley quiet for most of the match. Dax McCarty and Matt Miazga were named to the TotW's bench - which is some consolation.

Still, it is good to see RBNY's leading scorer being acknowledged as one of the league's best. Congrats, BWP! (And Dax and Matt!)

The Red Bulls have AC/DC to thank for their current bye week. They will return to action in Week 26 with a road game against Chicago Fire on Sept 26 and home match against D.C. United on Sept 30.
