The New York Red Bulls had a bye in Week 25 and are on a six-game unbeaten streak. Now is the time they can grab possession of first place in the East and get a glimpse of the Supporter's Shield with their double game week. First, they travel to the Chicago Fire for the first time this season on Wednesday. Then they host D.C. United on Sunday for the last time. If they grab all six points, they'll be one point up on DCU in the East with an incredible three games in hand.
For the record, these articles are getting harder and harder to write. The Red Bulls have been playing so well lately: the XI and the rest of the 18, that it's been tough to give a recommendation. Partly because it's easy just to say buy everyone... but partly because it's difficult to know who will get the nod from Jesse Marsch once game time comes around. So here's this week's crack.
I recommend to buy Sacha Kljestan. He's had back-to-back 8-point fantasy games against NYCFC and Toronto. He has been on fire his last eight games, earning 62 fantasy points. He should be able to continue his fantasy fast track with the double this week. Other definite starters should be Dax McCarty and Felipe Martins. All three have been solid in the middle of the field, which is imperative to success in this league. Make one of these guys your captain.
No bags this week. RBNY has a double. Everyone has been playing well. I would expect all of the wingers to get some type of playing time: Lloyd Sam, Gonzalo Veron, Mike Grella and Shaun Wright-Phillips. As long as you have three or four Red Bulls on your team, you should be good. They should be fine against Chicago and let's hope they finish off DCU.
