RBNY MLS Fantasy Recap Week 29: Perrinelle, Lawrence and Felipe

A tale of two road games. But RB still in the drivers' seat for the Shield.

Steve Dykes-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Red Bulls started off their week with a 2-1 defeat at the New England Revolution in one of their ugliest games of the season.  Then Sunday, they turned the tides and beat the Portland Timbers 2-0 at Providence Park.  The win guaranteed a playoff berth and a better record than NYCFC.  Here are this week's top performers:

Damien Perrinelle (DEF, 15 points): After receiving his 10th yellow card of the season and being pulled at halftime of the Revs game, Perrinelle followed it with his best performance of the season against the Timbers.  Perrinelle scored on a header in stoppage time of the first half to double RBNY's lead.  It was a lead that they would hold onto the rest of the game.  The defense earned another clean sheet and booked their ticket into the playoffs.

Kemar Lawrence (DEF, 13 points): Lawrence also had a bad/good week.  He started Wednesday and seemed a little lost, but turned on the gas Sunday.  He was all over the field and had a rare assist off a throw in to Felipe (give Jesse Marsch a double assist for speeding up play).  Lawrence earned bonus points for offensive and defensive efforts to keep Portland on their heels.

Felipe Martins (DEF, 12 points): All I can say is, what a shot.  Felipe scored RBNY's first goal on Sunday off Lawrence's throw in.  His 20+ yard rocket should be nominated for Goal of the Week.  Martins did a great job at pairing with Sean Davis during Dax McCarty's absence.

The Red Bulls are back in action on September 25 when they welcome Orlando City to Red Bull Arena.  Let's hope they can stay on track for the Shield.
