The New York Red Bulls stayed put as a flurry of trades took place during the start of the MLS draft. Then with the 18th pick in the draft New York selected Justin Bilyeu, a leftback out of Southern Illinois University.
Over four years Bilyeu played 59 times, scoring 5 goals, assisting on 7 more. A leftback by trade, the 6' 4" Bilyeu has also played in the center of defense and occasionally on the leftwing. The 21 year-old is known for his speed on the flanks, while being able to play a two-way game from the fullback position.
Bilyeu was named Third Team All-West Region by the NSCAA and Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference in 2015, while also being named Second Team All-Missouri Valley in 2014 as well. Bilyeu will support Kemar Lawrence and Connor Lade on the left side of defense while also providing potential centerback depth for the team.
