Bulls Abroad: Canada confirms Karl Ouimette's call-up

He's struggling for minutes with his club, but maybe his country will throw RBNY's out-of-favor defender some time on the field.

Jacksonville Armada leaked Karl Ouimette's Canada call-up a while back, but Canada Soccer has made it official: the New York Red Bulls' defender (on-loan to NASL's Armada) is in the senior national team squad for the upcoming October friendlies.

Ouimette is twice out of favor at club level: loaned to Jacksonville by RBNY - a team that has been in near-constant need of defensive cover all season - and struggling for playing time for one NASL's worst sides.

During this tough patch in his career, however, he has received regular calls to Canada's national team roster. It is expected (but not certain) he will be looking for a new club once the MLS season is over, so playing time of any sort is an important opportunity to showcase his talent.

Canada is set to play Mauritania on October 7 and Morocco on October 11. Both matches will be played in Marrakech, Morocco. They are the first games for Canada since the team failed to make the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying and dismissed head coach Benito Floro. Interim head coach Michael Findlay will lead the team in Morocco.
