He's the first American to play for Vitesse.

The landmarks are coming thick and fast for Matt Miazga at Vitesse. He's had his first appearancefirst Eredivisie appearance (and first assist), first Eredivisie start, and now he has pasted his name to Vitesse's "Heldenwand" ("Hero Wall" says Google Translate).

Miazga was the first American to play for Chelsea, and he is the first American to play first-team competitive football for Vitesse. But he is not the only American currently on the club's books. Teenager Kai Koreniuk was signed by the club in 2014, and is working his way through the Vitesse development structure.

Koreniuk was by Miazga's side for the visit to the Heldenwand, as Vitesse took the opportunity to showcase its growing collection of American players.

Miazga is on loan to Vitesse from Chelsea until the end of the season. The club will play rival NEC on Sunday, October 23. The former New York Red Bulls defender is currently thought to be in line for significant playing time while regular starting center back Maikel van der Werff recovers from injury.
