RBR 205: East Mode

Top of the East, Top of USL?

MLS: Columbus Crew SC at New York Red Bulls Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

It was yet another busy day for the New York Red Bulls organization. The MLS side got some wonderful help from former member Lloyd Sam and the worst team ever, D.C. United, who beat out New York City FC, handing first in the East to the Red Bulls. Of course, that alone wouldn’t be enough. The Red Bulls took care of their own business (barely) when they took Columbus Crew SC from the playoff picture with a nail biting 3-2 win.

The USL side faced off against Louisville City FC in the Eastern Conference Final of the USL Playoffs. In the previous round of the playoffs, the Rochester Rhinos took the Red Bulls to Extra Time and Penalty Kicks. Surely the Baby Bulls could avoid it for a second straight time right? Well, no, but at least they had Ryan Meara to stop two penalty kicks to secure their birth in the USL Cup Finals.
