Report: Vida's Douglas Martinez completes trial with New York Red Bulls

The young Honduran is heading home, but hopes to return to RBNY in the near future.

Eduardo Solano reports for La Prensa that Douglas Martinez - the Honduran U-20 international - has completed his trial with New York Red Bulls.

Per the report, Martinez is heading back to his club, Vida, but hopes to be back soon:

My dream would be returning in January to start the season.

The player told La Prensa that his agent would be having contract talks with RBNY.

Martinez called his time at the club "a fantastic experience", said Jesse Marsch was "a very approachable person", and described an ambitious goal:

My desire is have a career like Amado Guevara.

He qualified the statement by noting that he and Guevara are not the same type of player. But, despite the fact the Honduran legend left RBNY a decade ago, Martinez found himself inspired by the legacy of an all-time club great (more pertinently, of course, Guevara is an all-time great for Honduras):

When you get here, you realize his legacy, and I hope through hard work and struggle to achieve these goals in New York, to take the opportunity to come.

If he can get anywhere close to the level of play Guevara brought to New York: sign him up, Ali Curtis.
