Matt Miazga got his third consecutive start for Vitesse in the team's mid-week KNVB Cup win over RKC Waalwijk.
The 4-1 victory was Vitesse's first win since defender Maikel van der Werff went down injured and Miazga was tapped to replace the 27-year-old in the starting lineup (it has only been three games, and the other two were creditable-if-frustrating draws on the road). Head coach Henk Fraser named a strong - though not full strength - lineup for a home game against lower league opposition that his team was expected to win. Vitesse did not disappoint.
After opening the scoring via Yang Zhuning in the 19th minute, Vitesse let Waalwijk back into the match in the 53rd, conceding an equalizer. But the home team was back ahead in the 59th (thanks to a penalty converted by Lewis Baker). Marvelous Nakamba added the third in the 69th, and Nathan capped the scoring in injury time.
Vitesse now faces a quick turnaround as it prepares to return to league play and a visit from the defending Eredivisie champion, PSV, on Saturday, October 29.
