Matt Miazga has made seven appearances for Vitesse since joining the Dutch club on loan at the end of August. Though he immediately found a place in the match-day squad, his progression to a starting place was blocked by the fact Vitesse has a well-established starting center back pairing: Maikel van der Werff and Guram Kashia.

When van der Werff suffered a training-ground injury, however, Miazga was moved up the depth chart. He has been an every-game starter since van der Werff went down.

Since October 15, Miazga has started four games for Vitesse: three in Eredivisie and one in the KNVB Cup. The most recent, a home match against PSV on October 29, was the first loss for his team since he joined the starting lineup. Defending Eredivisie champion PSV took an early lead and added a second in injury time when Vitesse was in all-out pursuit of an equalizer. Both goals were scored by 21-year-old Uruguayan attacker Gaston Pereiro.

The 2-0 loss leaves Vitesse in seventh place in the league table. Next up for the team is a home game against Heracles on November 6.
