How to watch Canada vs Mauritania, international friendly: start time and online schedule

Karl Ouimette and Canada face a familiar opponent.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

New York Red Bulls' Karl Ouimette is not having much luck getting playing time at Jacksonville Armada. This is unfortunate because, it can be assumed, he wasn't loaned out to the NASL team to help out on the training field. But the 24-year-old defender at least has his national team: Canada has called Ouimette to its October roster, for friendlies against Mauritania and Morocco.

Mauritania is up first, in a match rescheduled because it apparently only recently occurred to the organizers that Morocco (the match is being played in Marrakesh) has an election happening on October 7 - the original date for this fixture.

Canada is rebuilding, again. After being bounced out of World Cup qualifying by Honduras, again. The squad called to play Mauritania includes Anthony Jackson-Hamel, a free-scoring member of Montreal Impact's reserve team this seasonYounger players are expected to get a good look from interim head coach Michael Findlay.

Canada may not have a World Cup to look forward to, but it does have next year's CONCACAF Gold Cup to consider. Persistent failure against regional rivals in World Cup qualifying has been foreshadowed by persistent failure against regional rivals in Gold Cups: Canada has won one of its last nine games at CONCACAF's showpiece tournament. Improve results in Gold Cup, and maybe WCQs will be less of a mountain to climb.

Mauritania played Canada in a pair of friendlies back in 2013, tying one (0-0) and winning the other (1-0). This match will be an opportunity for both teams to gauge how far they have come since.
