New York Red Bulls Academy prospect Chris Gloster played the full 90 minutes of the US U-17 Men's National Team's demolition of its Portuguese counterpart in the Nike International Friendlies.
The young Americans settled into the game quickly. Andrew Carleton converted a penalty (won by Ayo Akinola) in the eighth minute, and the US never looked back. Portugal briefly threatened to make a game of it by scoring in the 23rd minute, when the USA only had two goals on the board. But Carleton added his second before half time, to send the home team into the break with a 3-1 lead.
In the second half, the Americans added four unanswered goals. Josh Sargent scored a hat-trick, Carleton had a brace; Akinola and Rayshaun McGann added the Americans other goals.
The 7-1 win is a promising start to the showcase tournament for the USA. The team is next in action on December 2, when it will play Turkey.
