Anatole Abang made two significant lists on Monday, December 12: he's on the New York Red Bulls' list of players available for selection in the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft, and he's on Cameroon's 35-player preliminary roster for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. Given that Abang is on loan to a club in Denmark's First Division (second tier) and hasn't kicked a ball in MLS since July, it's fair to assume he was more affected by the news from Cameroon than that from his club.
Abang is currently in a training camp convened by Cameroon Men's National Team head coach, Hugo Broos. The young forward has been consistently favored with call-ups to the senior national team since Broos took charge of the Indomitable Lions earlier this year. He is one of four players in the current camp named to the preliminary roster for AFCON 2017.
Abang seems to be enjoying his time at home. In a recent friendly featuring the players assembled by Broos for December training, the 20-year-old reportedly scored a hat-trick.
