The New York Red Bulls released defender Shawn McLaws after the right back didn't make an appearance for the first team in 2015.

McLaws was drafted by the Red Bulls in the 3rd round, with the 59th overall pick of the 2015 Major League Soccer Superdraft. Prior to being drafted by the Red Bulls, McLaws was a four year defensive standout for the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers.

In 2014, McLaws was named Big South Defensive Player of the Year. During college, he also featured for USL PDL side Ocean City Nor'easters in 2013 and 2014.

While McLaws never played a minute in MLS, he made the Red Bulls game day roster seven times (6 times in MLS and 1 time in the U.S. Open Cup) in 2015.

McLaws was a solid contributor for NYRB II, making 21 USL regular season appearances and 2 playoff appearances. He contributed a goal and an assist in USL play.
