Erica Skroski, defender for Sky Blue FC, was recently named to the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team roster for the Istria Cup in Croatia.
The Istria Cup, which takes place March 2-7, will be the team’s first overseas matches of 2016.
The team will first square off against the full Slovenia’s Women’s National Team on March 2 before facing the Poland Under-19 Women’s National Team on March 4. The U.S. will finish out their play in the cup against the France National "B" Team.
The U.S. U-23 WNT, coached by Janet Rayfield, is comprised of 20 players, 11 of whom are either playing in or preparing to enter the NWSL this spring.
In a statement released by Sky Blue FC, Head Coach Christy Holly praised Skroski for the accolade.
"We are delighted that she has this opportunity and have no doubt it will help her push on to the next level, which will be of huge benefit to Sky Blue FC," Holly said.
Skroski was taken as the number 23 overall pick by Sky Blue in the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) college draft. The Galloway, N.J. native played for Rutgers University this past fall, where she helped anchor the backline during the school’s most successful season in program history.
This fall Skroski also received the 2015 Big East Defender of the Year award and was named to the All-Big East First Team and NSCAA All-America Second Team. Despite playing as a defender, Skroski also finished her career at Rutgers with five goals and four assists.
