As the MLS season is already underway with two weeks of games under their belt, it's time to take a look at the other team that is about to start their season in the United Soccer Leagues as the New York Red Bulls 2 side has just finished up their pre-season action at their training facility with a two goal clean sheet win defeating the Harrisburg City Islanders.
The main star of the game was former Georgetown striker Brandon Allen who found the back of the net twice to earn his first two with the side. The first goal came in the 3rd minute as Allen was attacking down the left side and delivered a hard shot past the keeper. His second of the match came from a corner along the far side of the field as Derrick Ettienne delivered it into the middle of the field.
The ball bounced around till Allen came out of nowhere and went top shelf scoring his second of the match in the 65th minute as the NY2 side finished off the game with a strong defensive performance to end the pre-season on a positive and prepare themselves to open their 2016 USL Campaign against Toronto FC 2 which will be at Red Bull Arena on Saturday, March 26th at 3PM inside Red Bull Arena.
"Brandon always finds ways to score goals that's a great knack to have and he clearly has it." said Head Coach John Wolyniec, "If he's scoring consistently then we are going to be a good team and a hard team to play against and we will have some good results for sure. Kinda get that going since he wasn't able to play last week (Against Bethlehem Steel) so that is something we are hoping he continues to do."
The two players that got involved into this pre-season from the first side of course is goalkeeper Ryan Meara who looked solid in net for the NY2 side, as he was challenged in the first half and made some solid decisions to come off his line to grab the ball. Wasn't troubled that much in the second half at the back line made some solid blocks and steals to avoid any issues that came his way.
But of course the big moment was to see Chris Duvall as the right fullback on this NY2 back line. It was fantastic to see him going up and down the right side after the horrible tackle he took in last season's 5th round US Open Cup match where his right fibula was broken against the New York Cosmos at Red Bull Arena.
But overall it was a solid performance by the USL side and Wolyniec was very pleased. "Last game before the season starts so it's good to get a result. A good match to prepare ourselves, it's good to see our guys get ninety minutes knowing they can last within a real USL game. It sets up ourselves well to get our season going in the right fashion."
So as the MLS season is already underway, very soon the USL season is going to start and let's hope there will be success for Wolyniec's side as the club gets ready for Toronto FC 2 next Saturday afternoon.
