Sky Blue FC had a preseason scrimmage against St. John’s University on Sunday, March 20th at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Sky Blue won the friendly 1-0, scoring on a penalty kick. The team played very well, dominating possession and pressuring St. John’s for all 90 minutes. However, there were missed opportunities within the final attacking third of the field that may be chalked up to unfamiliarity between the players as Sky Blue fielded a number of returning players, new signings, and hopefuls.
The game was well attended, with the Cloud 9 Supporters Group in attendance and a number of families filling the grandstands. The fans were enthralled in the match, reacting to many of the physical plays that occurred. They were pleasantly surprised to meet their heroes following the match, as Sky Blue, led by Kelley O’Hara and returning favorite Tasha Kai, greeted the supporters and fans in attendance.
