The New York Red Bulls haven't been good this season. Bad is probably a better adjective. It could be argued that they controlled the game against Sporting Kansas City, but couldn't find the net in their 2-0 loss. It feels like redemption time for the team. They will embark on a road trip this week to San Jose and Colorado for their first of four double game weeks this season.
I may be shelled with tomatoes for this, but buy Bradley Wright-Phillips. I called for him to have a "decent game" last week, but I'm feeling it this time. If a quarter of his shots would have gone in, he would have been on Team of the Week. The San Jose Earthquakes have given up seven goals in five games, so it's not like they are impenetrable. He'll have a chance to redeem himself playing two games this week. And on the bright side, if you didn't pick him up last week, he's cheaper now.
On the other side of the ball, bag... the entire RBNY defense. They are still lacking chemistry and killer instinct. Karl Ouimette didn't look too bad at center back. Kudos for Connor Lade on trying to get forward, but there is no need for him to ever take five shots in a game. Can we get Damien Perrinelle back yet? Or Gideon Baah?... or Kemar Lawrence? Matt Miazga wouldn't hurt either. No offense to Sal Zizzo, but he is REALLY slow getting back on transition. San Jose could spell trouble, but the Colorado Rapids have scored even less than RBNY. Maybe a clean sheet in the future? Doubtful, but one can dream.
