After losing three players to injury in the Houston game last week, the New York Red Bulls couldn't afford any more players to be lost. Then Friday happened. Well, really six minutes happened. 55th minute - Kemar Lawrence gets injured in his own half. While down on the ground, New England is able to stay onside and score a goal a few seconds later. Luis Robles is yellow carded for dissent. Kemar Lawrence is subbed off because of his injury for Chris Duvall.
61st minute - after losing the ball, Felipe Martins slide tackles the ball away from Kelyn Rowe. Rowe looks to go down in a heap. Referee Mark Geiger hands Felipe a straight red card. Disbelief is had by all. And the rest is history.
In the craziness of Friday night, two players had fairly good games. They were:
Dax McCarty (MID, 7 points): Dax was tasked to help out the ailing defense. He earned three bonus points for doing just that. But he also helped out on the offensive side, even though RBNY didn't seem to have much of an offense for the third time in four games. He earned one offensive bonus point and another point for getting fouled four times.
Karl Ouimette (DEF, 5 points): A rare accolade for Ouimette, scoring the second most fantasy points on the team. He wasn't able to keep the clean sheet, but it's hard to win when your team isn't scoring goals. Like Dax, he also had three defensive bonus points. Not to knock Karl, but he isn't a starter... you know your defense is struggling when Ouimette is tied for the lead in fantasy points with Lawrence.
Hopefully RBNY can put their 1-0 loss behind them. They are going to have to when Sporting Kansas City come to town this week. Who plays center back this time around...
