(Former) Bulls Abroad: Chelsea, Fulham, Tijuana, and Everton Send Ex-RBNY Players to Klinsmann's USMNT "Transitional" Copa America Camp

The team will face Puerto Rico before entering the lion's den

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

United States national team coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, announced a 22-man roster to play Puerto Rico in a friendly on Sunday May 22nd.  Due to the FIFA window starting on May 25th, and MLS teams still having games to play this weekend, all of the 22 players are outside of MLS.  Four of the players will be familiar to New York Red Bulls supporters: Defenders Matt Miazga and Tim Ream, young striker Amando Moreno, as well as veteran goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Jake Evans and Alex Showell, each Once a Metro contributors, gave a quick background on Moreno and discussed the team selection earlier today.

As for Moreno's on-field performance this season, the 20-year old played 174 minutes in four appearances (two starts, two substitutions) in Club Tiajuana's 30 total games.  He didn't record any goals or assists, but picked up one yellow card.  Moreno has represented the US at the U-18 and U-20 in the last few years, scoring five goals in 23 appearances.

Miazga is fresh in RBNY supporters' minds.  The 20-year old was transferred to Chelsea at the end of January.  He made his first appearance for the Chelsea U-21 squad on March 11th in a 2-1 win over Leicester City U-21 squad.  His First Team debut was on April 2nd, playing all 90 minutes during a 4-0 stomping over newly relegated Aston Villa.  Then the following match, the Blues lost to Swansea 1-0, where Miazga only played the first half.  Miazga became cap tied to the US in November, following a 63rd minute entrance in the World Cup qualifier victory against St. Vincent's & the Grenadines, 6-1.

Ream made 14 appearances with Fulham FC in 2015-16 after spending two seasons with Bolton Wanderers.  He made 114 appearances with Bolton and was awarded Player of the Year the last two seasons.  Since 2010, Ream has recorded 20 caps with the men's senior team.

Lastly, the man who needs no introduction, former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard.  Through Howard's 399 appearances with Everton and Manchester United over 14 seasons, he recorded 132 clean sheets, good for a tie with fellow American Brad Friedel for 8th in EPL's all-time list.  He also scored a freak 101-yard goal on a windy day January 4th, 2012, helping his team to defeat Bolton 2-1.  Howard has 107 caps with the USMNT since 2002.

The US will face Puerto Rico on Sunday, then have two more warm up games against Ecuador and Bolivia over Memorial Day weekend before opening up their Copa America campaign against Colombia on June 3rd.  All of their games, except Ecuador (ESPN2), will be televised on Fox Sports 1 throughout the May and June.
