Bulls Abroad: Kemar Lawrence Named to Jamaica's Final 23-Man Copa America Squad

Junior Flemming isn't as lucky

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Even though Kemar Lawrence isn't performing like his 2015 self, he still made this summer's Copa America squad for Jamaica.  Lawrence has started in 11 of 12 games for the New York Red Bulls this season, playing in 901 of the possible 1,080 minutes, recording three shots and two yellow cards.

Lawrence is a physical outside back and recorded a goal and four assists for RBNY in 2015.  He has the ability to get forward offensively because of his speed,  while possessing the traits of a great one-on-one defender.

After being called to the preliminary roster, Junior Flemmings willl seemingly need to wait a bit longer to don the yellow jersey of the Reggae Boyz since he was not named to the final roster.

Jamaica's final roster includes six players from MLS, one from USL, two from English Championship and two from the Premier League including the captain from newly crowned champs Leicester City, Wes Morgan.

Jamaica will travel to Chile for a friendly match on May 27th before coming to the US to start their Copa America journey.  They have been drawn into Group C where they will open up with Venezuela in Chicago on June 5th.  From there, they will have back-to-back games in California against Mexico on June 9th and Haiti on June 13th.  They'll have incentive to win their group since the quarterfinal game for the winner of Group C will also play in California.  If they are the runner-up, they'll need to make the cross country trip to Foxborough.

Good luck to Lawrence and the team in this tournament.  Do us all a favor and beat Mexico.
