Bulls Abroad: Derrick Etienne joins Haiti's Copa America Centenario training camp

The RBNY player is getting a chance to experience Haiti's Copa America preparations.

Hat tip to Steph Banatte, who noticed the New York Red Bulls' Derrick Etienne has joined the Haiti men's national team training camp for Copa America Centenario. The player's arrival is noted on the Haitian Football Federation's Facebook page.

Etienne was named to a shortlist of reserves for the 23-man squad selected to contest the tournament. If all goes to plan, he and the other reserves will leave camp on May 30 - after Haiti has played a friendly against Colombia on May 29.

That schedule suggests we should not expect to see Etienne play for NYRB II (for whom he has been a regular starter so far this season) against Pittsburgh Riverhounds on May 28. As a reserve for his national team, it seems unlikely he will feature in Haiti's tune-up against Colombia, but he's in camp so there's a chance he plays.

Haiti kicks off its Copa America Centenario campaign on June 4 against Peru in Seattle.
