Just days before their road match against the Chicago Red Stars, Sky Blue FC announced a couple of roster changes, some of which were unexpected.
The biggest roster move was the waiving of midfielder Ashley Nick, who signed with Sky Blue as a free agent during the preseason.
Nick has played in three games this season for Sky Blue, including one start, for a total of 103 minutes.
Nick previously played for Sky Blue in the 2013 and 2014 seasons before splitting time between the Houston Dash and Western New York Flash last season.
Sky Blue FC also announced today that amateur midfielder Theresa Diederich had been called up for this weekend's match against Chicago in the absence of Kelley O'Hara, who is away with the USWNT in preparation for a pair of international friendlies against Japan next week.
Diederich played in three games last season for SBFC, but Sunday will mark her first appearance for Sky Blue this season.
"Theresa has been with us for two seasons now, and she has continued to develop her game since arriving here in New Jersey. We are very confident that she can make an impact at this level of play when called upon," Head Coach Christy Holly said in a statement.
Collegiately, Diederich played at the University at Alabama, where she scored 23 goals and 10 assists for a total of 56 points.
Sky Blue FC next takes on try Chicago Red Stars in Chicago on Sunday, May 29 at 7 p.m. EST.
