It seems like the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League just came to a close. Well... it did, with Club America defeating Tigres 2-1 a month ago. But as things come to an end, it allows for something else to begin. That something is the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League. And your New York Red Bulls are involved.
This will be RBNY's 3rd trip to CCL, following their 2008 MLS Cup appearance (2009-10) and 2013 Supporters' Shield (2014-15), and now their 2015 Supporters' Shield.
The draw for the 2016-17 CCL tournament will be held in Miami on Monday May 30th. All qualified Liga MX teams and US-based MLS teams will be in Pot 3 so they cannot be drawn against each other in the Group Stage round. The other four MLS teams in CCL are Portland Timbers (MLS Cup champs), FC Dallas (best regular season record in opposite conference from SS winners), Sporting Kansas City (US Open Cup champs) and Vancouver Whitecaps (Canadian champs).
The group stage will occur in 2016 with the dates TBD. Additionally, the knockout stage in 2017 is also TBD. Any wishes for group stage opponents?
