New York Red Bulls lineup prediction, US Open Cup edition: at Rochester Rhinos; June 15, 2016

Who will Jesse send out to try win RBNY a place in the next round?

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

A day or so ago, I told The Bent Musket I was pretty much expecting to see the same lineup that started against Harrisburg Cuty Islanders for NYRB II kick off the New York Red Bulls' 2016 US Open Cup campaign in Rochester.

Now, I'm not so sure. On Monday, Jesse Marsch told reporters he had sent out the team that would start against the Rhinos for a scrimmage with the visiting Ecuador national team. And we were told Shaun Wright-Phillips opened the scoring. So it sounds like Shaun Wright-Phillips will play in Rochester - so far, so good as far as that earlier prediction is concerned.

As for the others: well, RBNY put Luis Robles and Mike Grella on pre-game hype duty - which suggests they're in the mix too. That rather ruins the lineup prediction offered to The Bent Musket.

For no particular reason, I remain convinced we'll see a couple of NYRB II players loaned up for this game. But that is no more than a hunch.

It feels like Gonzalo Veron should be starting this game, but it's hard to fit him into a lineup if Grella, Alex Muyl and SWP are already in it. Maybe the Argentine DP will take the striker's role up top.
