Sky Blue FC (2-3-4, 10 points) is on the road this week, heading to the Maryland SoccerPlex to take on Washington Spirit (5-1-2, 17 points) for the second time this season.
The last meeting, Sky Blue's home opener, resulted in a 2-1 win for the visiting Spirit after goals by Ali Krieger and Diana Matheson lifted the Spirit over Maya Hayes' lone goal for Sky Blue.
Sky Blue FC is coming off one of their best performances of the season, last week's scoreless draw against Seattle Reign FC. That draw extended Sky Blue's unbeaten streak to three matches.
Going into this weekend's matches, Washington is third on the NWSL table, even with having played one fewer game because of inclement weather. The Spirit's only loss was a 4-1 loss to the Portland Thorns FC, and last weekend, the Spirit defeated the Orlando Pride 2-0.
"We are looking forward to getting down to Washington and putting in a good performance on Saturday," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. "This game comes to us after our strongest showing of the year against Seattle last weekend. We have seen quite a bit of Washington, and we have a good understanding of what their strengths and weaknesses are. We have formulated a game plan that we know will provide us with a positive outcome if executed properly."
