Dax McCarty climbs into New York Red Bulls' all-time assist-making top six

The RBNY captain is slyly moving into the company of his club's all-time most-productive goal-creators.

New York Red Bulls club captain, Dax McCarty, made his 183rd appearance and 175th start for the first team in all competitions in the MLS fixture against Columbus Crew on Sunday, June 26.

The game didn't end well for RBNY. A draw on the road is not a bad result, but conceding a last-minute goal made it feel like a loss. The captain wasn't happy.

Still, one benefit of a crowded schedule is that there isn't much time to worry about the past. As the captain says, all eyes must now be on Wednesday's US Open Cup match against Philadelphia Union.

But in our haste to forget the points dropped in Columbus, let us not forget the captain's contribution to RBNY's goal in that game (1:17 in the video below):

McCarty was credited with the secondary assist on that play, and that was his 27th assist in all competitions for the Red Bulls. Only five players have ever tallied more for the club, per MetroFanatic.com's statistical archive.

Name Games Played Games Started Minutes Played Assists
Thierry Henry 135 130 11510 49
Amado Guevara 117 114 10284 39
Tab Ramos 131 122 10447 39
Dane Richards 176 148 13413 30
Mark Chung 98 90 8237 28
Dax McCarty 183 175 15582 27

Lurking behind Captain Dax are current teammates Sacha Kljestan and Lloyd Sam - each with 26 career assists for RBNY to date. They can reasonably be expected to join him - and eventually surpass him, since they are both attacking players expected to feature regularly on the score sheet.

So he won't probably won't be quite so high up the list for long, but the captain is currently sixth on his club's all-time, all-competitions assist-making chart. Congrats, Captain Dax!
