After drawing with Azerbaijan 1-1 on Friday, Canada ended their Austria trip on a high note by defeating Uzbekistan 2-1. Canadian goals were scored by David Edgar in the 20th minute and an own goal by Uzbekistan in the 81st minute. You can watch a replay of the game here. Canada is now 3-3-5 in their last 11 games, which is better than their 16 game winless streak during 2012-2014
New York Red Bulls defenseman Karl Ouimette came off the bench against Azerbaijan, but started and played all 90 minutes against Uzbekistan. The only goal Les Rouge allowed was in the 62nd minute. Ouimette now has 16 caps with Canada's senior team.
Canada's next scheduled game is CONCACAF World Cup qualifying at Honduras on September 2nd. Honduras and Canada are tied with four points each in Group A. If Canada can walk away with three points, they all but clinch a spot in the Hex. The last time Canada traveled to Honduras for World Cup qualifying was in 2012 when they were trounced 8-1 and eliminated from qualifying for Brazil. Canadian supporter's would like to forget about that, but it will be tough since it's still fairly fresh in their minds.
Congrats to Karl and Canada for a successful trip to Austria.
