Paraguay's Oscar Romero is keeping the rumor mill busy. Currently at Racing Club in Argentina, the 24-year-old playmaker is being pursued by a steadily growing bushel of clubs from around the world: Brazil, Bundesliga, and yes - of course - MLS.
Romero had previously confirmed the existence of an offer from MLS, and we also know his club is inclined to play hardball in the transfer market. Romero's price has been set by Racing at $9-10 million, with the promise that any low bids would be rejected (Fluminense has reportedly tested Racing's resolve on this point). Sounder At Heart has noted Romero was on Seattle's watch-list. The New York Red Bulls got tangled up in Romero rumors for reasons that have yet to be either clear or persuasive.
Now reports out of Argentina - here's one from Racingmaniacos - suggest the MLS bid did meet Racing's asking price, but the player has rejected the opportunity to move to MLS.
Racing club president Victor Blanco has reportedly confirmed the rejection of a bid from MLS:
Argentine journalist Daniel Spangaro also passes on the news that Corinthians - current club of Romero's twin brother Angel - has now joined the chase for the Paraguayan.
For his part, Romero seems to be enjoying himself in Racing's pre-season preparations.
