Sacha Kljestan moves to (joint) fifth on New York Red Bulls' all-time assists list

Kljestan is approaching the very highest tier of RBNY play-making.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Sacha Kljestan has tallied 12 assists so far this season (all in league play, as it happens), including two in the New York Red Bulls' most recent game - the 4-1 win over NYCFC.

Kljestan is the leading assist-maker in MLS, despite the fact his contributions against NYCFC were his first assists since May. And he is on track for another notable assist-making season by the standards of RBNY.

In 2015, Kljestan tallied 16 assists for the Red Bulls in all competitions: the joint second best assist-making season in club history. And he had 14 assists in league games: the joint best single-season assist total for a Red Bulls player in MLS regular season matches.

In 2016, he's not far away from setting a new single-season assists record for RBNY.

But the future is uncertain. What is certain is that Kljestan's continued prolific assist-making is rocketing him up the Red Bulls' all-time, all-competitions assists list. Per MetroFanatic.com's statistics archive, Sacha now has 28 career assists for RBNY in all competitions, and that puts him joint fifth on the all-time list.

All-Time Assists Position Name Games Played Games Started Minutes Assists
1st Thierry Henry 135 130 11510 49

T - 5th Sacha Kljestan 63 61 5270 28
T - 5th Mark Chung 98 90 8237 28

And he's tied with Dan Richards for fourth on the club's all-time MLS regular season assist list.

Congrats, Sacha!
