The New York Red Bulls just love using their academy kids against these top clubs from anywhere around the world. Jose Mourinho got the first taste of these talented Red Bulls players when they topped Chelsea 4-2. This year, it was the turn of one of Mexico's top teams - Club America.
Las Aguilas stood up to the RBNY reserves a little better than Chelsea, but fell to the kids in the end, 2-0. We are seeing the fruits of the Red Bulls' labor as once again a mix of their USL players and a few aspiring starters from the senior side showed what they can do.
Here are three thoughts on the game.
SHAUN WRIGHT-PHILLIPS RIDES HIS BIKE & DAN METZGER'S SENSATIONAL VOLLEY: What a fantastic early goal from the elder Wright-Phillips brother who rode his bicycle and beat the Club America 'keeper at point blank range. Also Metzger took advantage of a loose ball and ripped his chance into the back of the net.

SOLID DEFENSE ALL THE WAY AROUND: how could you not love how good the Red bulls defense was?And backup keeper Kyle Reynish four spectacular saves to stop Club America from getting a single goal, frustrating them to no end.
GIVE JOHN WOLYNIEC CREDIT: The Red Bulls have a future coach if and when Jesse Marsch leaves the club. What he has done in the nearly two seasons with the USL Bulls has been fantastic. He continues to show why he could be a future MLS coach with the performances he ekes out of an ever-changing reserve team lineup, and the last two years have seen the mid-season friendly become a showcase for Woly-coached talent.
