New York Red Bulls U-16s exit Salzburg's Next Generation Trophy

The tournament never referred to as RalfBall Cup has lost one of its RalfBalling teams.

The New York Red Bulls U-16 team will bring no goals, no points, and many lessons back from this year's Next Generation Trophy in Salzburg.

The point of all youth soccer is more development than results, so there is no need to dwell on the fact RBNY lost 2-0 to Benfica and 1-0 to FC Midtjylland in group play. The official reports on Brother Salzburg's website note: "the Americans struggled to put too many moves together, often losing the ball in their own half," with regard to the match against Benfica; "Midtjylland were the better team in the second half, even if there wasn't too much to note in front of either goal," says the Austrian RB club's official site about RBNY's second game of the tournament.

For what it is worth, RBs Salzburg, Leipzig and Brasil all progressed to the quarterfinals of the tournament, keeping the RalfBall flag flying. Those matches, and the semifinals, will be played on August 12.
