Back in May, D.C. United clobbered the New York Red Bulls to the tune of a 2-0 defeat. Since then the Red Bulls have been on quite the tear though, only losing two of their last 14 matches. Coming off a 3-1 win against Montreal, the Red Bulls are surging and trying to make a run at a top-two finish in the Eastern Conference. Standing in their way on Sunday afternoon will be Atlantic Cup rivals DC United (as well as a six-game winless run on the road).
DC has struggled recently, winning only three of their last 12 games. RFK Stadium in particular has not been overly kind to the home team either. With four home losses this season, only the Seattle Sounders have given up all three points in their own stadium more regularly. But DC United still boast a talented lineup and are never to be taken lightly.
Of course, DC United will also be featuring former Red Bulls fan-favorite Lloyd Sam, who has already carved a decent niche for himself in the DC lineup. It will be odd to see the longtime Red Bulls star in the DC kit.
For the Red Bulls to continue gaining ground on NYC FC and Toronto in the conference standings they need to keep getting points on the road and a long-awaited win would go a long way towards that goal.
Here is the New York Red Bulls predicted XI at DC United:
GK Luis Robles
DF Kemar Lawrence
DF Aurelien Collin
DF Ronald Zubar
DF Chris Duvall
MF Sean Davis
MF Felipe
MF Mike Grella
MF Sacha Kljestan
MF Alex Muyl
MF Bradley Wright-Phillips
After the strong week Gonzalo Veron and Omer Damari had, it will be interesting to see how Jesse Marsch utilizes them. However, in such a difficult road match he may not be ready to give either one the start just yet.
What do you think?
