Rumor: Anderlecht eyeing Chelsea's Matt Miazga

Might Miazga follow in Sacha Kljestan's footsteps?

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

Het Nieuwsblad reports Anderlecht is uncertain about hanging on to Senegalese defender Kara Mbodj, and has identified Chelsea's Matt Miazga as a potential replacement.

Mbodj has been unsettled at the Belgian club, and was thought likely to sign with Swansea - but the Premier League side has announced the acquisition of Alfie Mawson, so may no longer be in the market for a defender. It is reported that Anderlecht's targeted replacement for Mbodj - Jakub Brabec - has been snapped up by Genk. Still possibly in need of a replacement for want-away Mbodj, Anderlecht is rumored to have settled on Chelsea's young American.

Of course, in order to move to Belgium, Miazga would want to have to go. Prior rumors have suggested the player and Chelsea would rather he play this season in England, and that he has Premier League clubs willing to take him on loan. The only reason he isn't at one of those clubs already is that Chelsea first needs to secure its own defensive ranks for the season ahead, says Goal.com.

Still, maybe Miazga calls up his former New York Red Bulls teammate, Sacha Kljestan (formerly of Anderlecht), and is persuaded of the benefits of a year in Belgium.

Het Nieuwsblad suggests any move by Anderlecht for Miazga would be conditional on Mbodj leaving the Belgian club. And we have already been told any loan away from Chelsea is likely conditional on new recruits arriving at Stamford Bridge. Perhaps there are too many conditions to be fulfilled for this match to happen.

But Miazga is running out of time to make his move, so the more options he has the better his chance of making a last-minute dash out of Chelsea.
