Rumor: Espanyol offering Matt Miazga deadline-day loan lifeline out of Chelsea

La Liga is calling Chelsea's young American.

With David Luiz safely returned to Chelsea after a brief sojourn in Paris, the Blues are now able - we think - to allow Matt Miazga to take the loan he needs to get some competitive minutes under his feet this season.

Prior reports had suggested the young American had Premier League suitors, but with a deal needing to be made in the last hours of the summer transfer window, perhaps those opportunities are not what they once were. Grant Wahl reports for Sports Illustrated that Espanyol has emerged as the favored candidate for Miazga's services this season, advising Chelsea has determined the player has a better shot at playing time with the La Liga club than with whatever other options are still available.

Deadline-day deals move with reckless and furious abandon, so there is time yet for another twist or two - but Miazga's general trajectory looks to be out of Chelsea and into a loan with a club able to offer him a better chance at cracking the starting lineup this season.
