Responding to the revelation that Anatole Abang is on trial with Silkeborg, the recently-appointed head coach of Hobro IK, Thomas Thomasberg, told Nordjyske.dk that he was unperturbed by the forward's apparently wandering eye:
We have many good strikers, and therefore it's fine for us to Abang samples in a different place when he has the opportunity.
Perhaps a little ominously for Abang if he doesn't leave Hobro in this transfer window, Thomasberg is of the opinion the squad he inherited has a few too many attacking players in it anyway:
We should perhaps be fewer attackers and one or two defenders more.
Abang's trial at Danish Superliga side Silkeborg was reported to run to Wednesday, January 18, by Midtjyllands Avis. Hobro's first friendly excursion of its winter break is on Thursday, January 19: Abang has not been listed among the players expected to participate.
The New York Red Bulls forward is on loan to Hobro - currently top of Denmark's First Division (the second tier of pro Danish soccer) - until the summer of 2017. It is assumed he was loaned out with the hope he would find himself a new team on a more permanent basis, perhaps for a transfer fee of which some portion might fall to RBNY.
Since moving to Hobro, Abang has made 10 appearances for the club and scored three goals. He was a preferred starter under head coach Ove Pedersen, but it is not yet clear how the new man, Thomasberg, thinks the 20-year-old might fit into his plans.
Abang will get the chance to show his new coach what he has to offer when and if he returns to Hobro's training camp.
