Sky Blue FC forward Tasha Kai underwent her second ankle surgery of the off-season on January 9. Pictures posted on her social media accounts show the procedure was done to her right ankle.
The Hawaiian native previously underwent successful arthroscopic surgery for her left ankle on September 26, 2016. Kai opted to have the procedure done after having a series of “nagging” injuries throughout the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.
Unlike her first picture posted regarding her left ankle surgery (above), there are no hashtags as of yet to hint at whether she will need any additional procedures done. There also has not been a timetable set for her recovery. However, Sky Blue exercised her option before the 2016 NWSL Player Re-Entry Wire deadline back in October, which may indicate she will have recovered in time to join the team for the upcoming season.
Kai signed with Sky Blue FC during the 2016 off-season and immediately made her return to soccer memorable. During the club’s season opener, she scored the first goal of the 2016 campaign and helped the New Jersey squad hand Seattle Reign FC its first loss ever at Memorial Stadium. Kai also scored SBFC’s final goal of 2016, ending the season with four goals and one assist in 20 games played.
The former U.S. women’s national team forward was a member of Sky Blue FC for two seasons during Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) and played a key role in helping the club win the 2009 WPS championship.
