After a 2-0 win over Portland Timbers on Friday, January 27, the New York Red Bulls are back in preseason action with a mid-day run-out against Real Salt Lake on Tuesday, January 31.
RSL has reportedly been focusing its early preseason efforts on defensive work, as perhaps reflected by the 0-0 result of the team's friendly against NK Istra. For more on RBNY's latest opponent, check out what RSL Soapbox had to say to OaM's Steve Toto.
The Red Bulls' last outing was an unconventional scrimmage played as three periods of 30 minutes. The game against RSL should follow a more conventional 2x45 format. Also, since RBNY has scheduled a run-out with the University of Arizona club men's soccer team later the same day, this game against RSL might see Red Bulls' head coach Jesse Marsch narrow his focus to those players in his current training camp that he thinks may be able to contribute to the season-opening CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal on February 22. RBNY had been scheduled for a double-header on January 31, but the scrimmage with the University of Arizona men's soccer team has been postponed, so the project to maximize preseason minutes will have to make the best of just one game when two had been expected.
